Winter Meetings!

This is always a fun time of year for baseball fans.  As a Royals fan you never know what to expect.  Usually, the week ends with disappointment.  I'm falling into that territory this year as of right now.

Early on, there was buzz that Gio Gonzalez would be in Kansas City next year.  The potential for that move had be glued to my computer for a solid day.  As soon as heard Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer or Mike Moustakas had to be involved to get a deal done, I decided to back down on my hopes for Gio.  I wouldn't have minded a Cheslor Cuthbert, Kelvin Herrera, Chris Dwyer, Clint Robinson type move however. I know it's a bit of a load, but Gio Gonzalez is under club control for four more seasons.  That's a bonifide ace for the next four years in KC.  The strikeout potential for the Royals' staff would be amazing with Gio, Danny Duffy, Felipe Paulino and Jonathan Sanchez.

The talks for Edgar Renteria entice me.  I think it'd be a great move.  I know he's not the player he used to be, but he would be an excellent mentor for Alcides, and a good name to have on the club.

It sounds like no splashes will be made by the Royals this year.  But you never know.  There's still a lot of potential on this team, and I think there's a chance they will sneak up on some people this year.  Here's to Duffy and Mike Montgomery taking off and Wil Myers having a meteoric Eric Hosmer post Lasik rise through the system
